SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development)

At Castle View Enterprise Academy, we are committed to developing well-rounded young people who are ready to make a positive contribution to their communities and wider society. Through our Personal Development curriculum and everyday Academy life, students develop the knowledge, skills and character to become confident, respectful and responsible citizens.

Our SMSC provision helps students to grow personally, understand the world around them and make informed choices. It encourages them to reflect on their own beliefs, appreciate the views and experiences of others, and develop the confidence to embrace new opportunities.

Everything we do is underpinned by our Academy values:

Spiritual Development

Students are encouraged to explore their own beliefs, values and aspirations while developing an appreciation of the beliefs and experiences of others. Through reflection, discussion and a wide range of learning experiences, students develop curiosity, creativity and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

Moral development

Students develop a strong sense of right and wrong and learn to make informed, responsible decisions. They explore ethical issues, understand the importance of fairness and justice, and recognise the impact their actions can have on others.

Social development

Students learn how to build positive relationships, work collaboratively and contribute to their school and wider community. They are encouraged to become active citizens who understand the importance of teamwork, leadership and supporting others.

Cultural development

Students are encouraged to celebrate the rich diversity of modern Britain and the wider world. Through lessons, enrichment activities and wider experiences, they gain an appreciation of different cultures, traditions and perspectives.

SMSC Across the Academy

SMSC is not taught as a standalone subject. Instead, it is embedded throughout Academy life and delivered through:

Students have access to a wide range of opportunities that support their personal development, including:

These opportunities help students develop the confidence, resilience and essential skills needed for future education, employment and life.

Through our SMSC provision, we encourage every student to be ambitious in pursuing their goals, show determination when facing challenges, demonstrate respect for themselves and others, and take responsibility for their actions and their future. These values shape everything we do and prepare our students to thrive in education, employment and life.
