Spiritual Development

Provision for the spiritual development of students includes developing their:

• Ability to be reflective about their own beliefs (religious or otherwise) and perspective on life.
• Knowledge of, and respect for, different people's faiths, feelings and values.
• Sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them.
• Use of imagination and creativity in their learning and willingness to reflect on their experiences.

Moral Development

Provision for the social development of students includes developing their:

• Use of a range of social skills in different contexts, for example working and socialising with other students, including those from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Willingness to participate in a variety of communities and social settings, including by volunteering, cooperating well with others and being able to resolve conflicts effectively.
• Acceptance of and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. They will develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.

Social Development

Provision for the social development of students includes developing their:

• use of a range of social skills in different contexts, for example working and socialising with other students, including those from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
• willingness to participate in a variety of communities and social settings, including by volunteering, cooperating well with others and being able to resolve conflicts effectively.

Cultural Development

Provision for the cultural development of students includes developing their:

• Understanding and appreciation of the wide range of cultural influences that have shaped their own heritage and that of others.
• Understanding and appreciation of the range of different cultures in the school and further afield as an essential element of their preparation for life in modern Britain.
• Ability to recognise, and value, the things we share in common across cultural, religious, ethnic and socio-economic communities.
• Knowledge of Britain's democratic parliamentary system and its central role in shaping our history and values, and in continuing to develop Britain.
• Willingness to participate in and respond positively to artistic, musical, sporting and cultural opportunities.
• Interest in exploring, improving understanding of and showing respect for different faiths and cultural diversity and the extent to which they understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity. This is shown by their respect and attitudes towards different religious, ethnic and socio-economic groups in the local, national and global communities.

SMSC is delivered through a whole Academy approach, through all subject areas, the pastoral and assembly programme, trips and visits and our extra-curricular and enrichment programmes. Across the curriculum, students are able to:

• Celebrate and commemorate national events and anniversaries related to key events in Britain's past and key world events.
• Work alongside the local community; meeting different members of the community to appreciate the valuable contributions they make.
• Support charities, which are chosen by students, and arrange fundraising events.
• Understand and explain how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process.
• Appreciate that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their wellbeing and safety.
• Understand that the freedom to choose and hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law.
• Show that other people having different faiths or beliefs (or having none) should be accepted and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour.
• Understand the importance of identifying and combatting discrimination.
• Develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience.
• Distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England.

SMSC provision at Castle View Enterprise Academy includes:

• LifeSkills (PSHE) lessons (one 50 minute lesson each week for all students).
• Opportunities for personal development, SMSC and careers education woven into all subject areas.
• A reflective approach to learning through formative assessment techniques; students have ownership and understand their current attainment, their aspirational targets and how they can achieve these.
• A clear and shared rewards policy which celebrates success; promoting students' self-esteem and confidence.
• Year group assemblies (including guest speakers) and a planned registration programme.
• Educational visits (local, national and international) provide students with a range of experiences which promote a sense of awe and wonder.
• Fundraising for year groups' chosen charities and whole school charity events.
• A comprehensive and stable careers programme including guest speakers, workplace visits, careers guidance, visits to FE and HE institutions.
• Opportunities to participate in theatre visits, art gallery visits, sporting events and a range of cultural experiences.
• Personal development and SMSC 'Step Up' days with a specific year group focus.
• The House System which encourages healthy competition amongst students and staff.
• Student leadership and mentoring opportunities within the Academy including Lead Students, House Captains, Charity Leaders, Sports Leaders, Literacy Leaders, Maths Mentors, Peer Mentors and Careers Champions.
• The Skillsbuilder programme to support students understanding and development of the eight essential skills. · a wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Combined Cadet Force and our Cricket, Performing Arts and Football Academies.
