The boys started off positively with a fantastic 5-1 result to the home team Southmoor, Will Ntoka lead valiantly from the outset and throughout with his barnstorming runs leaving holes all over their defensive line. So much so that cries of ‘oh not him again’ were heard whenever Will touched the ball.
The second match against Monkwearmouth was our hardest test on the day, the boys were clearly confident following their first win - this may have turned to complacency as they allowed their defence to be broken down by a resilient Monkwearmouth attack.
The last 3 matches seemed to run as clockwork for our ruthless Castle View side, Ryley Taylor eagerly took the role of ‘sledgehammer’ from Will Ntoka. Dylan Paris and Josh Lynch became real life Slinkies, sliding throughout the defence without any issues.
Following up a strong year 8 performance, Ashton Simpson took the role of captain well within his stride today - leading from the front and mowing down his opponents like a well-oiled lawn mower.
Bearing in mind, most of the other school’s squads were made up of students from year 8 - our own year 7s flourished today. Their bravery in defence and creativity in attack helped to compliment the scorelines and gave us that competitive edge on the day.
Could there be a new sport that takes CVEA by storm? Only time will tell...
