Year 10 National Glass Centre trip

In July students from Year 10 Art & Design classes visited the National Glass Centre on the banks of the River Wear. They learned about the screen printing technique and how to fuse glass as well as watching a demonstration on glass blowing. The students had a really enjoyable day producing quality work that will enhance their GCSE grades.

CVEA's Got Talent

The Academy is delighted to announce its Academy talent show next Thursday 17th October at 6:00 pm. The cost will be £2 per ticket. It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and promises to be a good night!


PIXL Debate

PIXL Debate

Students in year 9 & 10 are invited to take part in national competitions where students work in small groups to prepare for intelligent debates, which are both planned and spontaneous, competing against students from other schools. Currently we have year 10 students preparing for the English Speaking Union's Churchill Public Speaking competition and year 9 students will soon be preparing for PIXL Up for Debate.

Students and staff at CVEA will be showing their support for World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October by adding a splash of yellow to their uniform. For a suggested donation of £1, students can choose to wear a yellow shirt, yellow tie, yellow hair bobbles or yellow socks. All monies raised will be donated to Young Minds.

The University of Sunderland - Bright Sparks

The University of Sunderland’s Bright Sparks STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Club are preparing to launch 2019-20 programme of events. The club is for ALL Tyne and Wear and County Durham pupil aged 11-16 who have an interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths.

CVEA’s Got Talent

We are holding auditions this week for our annual Talent Show, which will take place on Thursday 17th October at 6pm. Tickets go on sale from Friday 4th October. They will be available to collect from main reception priced at £2 each. Last year’s winner Lily McCann went on to win the overall “Sunderland Search for a Star” contest held at Oxclose Academy. We will host the final here at CVEA in March next year.

Castle View Enterprise Academy Make their Mark!

All students at Castle View Enterprise Academy are making their mark on politics this week. Students are voting for topics to be debated by youth parliament in the House of Commons. They will vote for a UK wide issue, a devolved topic and a local issue. Results will be posted next week!

The Riot Act delivered their energetic and entertaining ‘Why Queue?’ assembly to year 7. This theatre event promoted messages around sustainable travel and road safety. Students have continued to explore these topics in their Life Skills lessons.

Careers @ CVEA - Ford Next Generation Learning

Members of our SLT recently visited Nashville, Tennessee as part of a study visit looking at approaches to teaching and learning with a focus on employer engagement. Over the next three years, the Academy will be working with the North East LEP, the Edge Foundation and Ford NGL to further develop and strengthen our careers education provision. This will provide opportunities for students to engage with local employers & apply their learning to the world of work.

Year 8 Visit Safetyworks

As part of our PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) programme, year 8 students visited SafetyWorks in Newcastle (an interactive safety centre managed by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service). Students worked with the police, fire service and St John Ambulance to learn about the prevention of danger and how to live safely.

Anne Frank Trust Exhibition

Castle View Enterprise Academy is privileged to have the Anne Frank Trust exhibition displaying in school. On Monday their specialist workers trained 16 Year 8 pupils as peer educators -ambassadors’ for the Trust. These photos show the ambassadors talking to year 8 and 9 classes about Anne Frank. Then for the rest of the week your child will show their fellow pupils around the exhibition which takes pupils around an exhibition of Anne Frank's life and diary.

Year 7 Macmillan Coffee Morning On Friday 27th September, Year 7 hosted our annual coffee morning. Year 7 students, staff and parents baked delicious cakes and treats which helped to raise over £500 for Macmillan. Well done year 7! A great start to our fundraising for 2019-2020.

Year 9 and 10 Business students visited the Skills England careers event at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. Students were able to speak to local employers, apprenticeship and training providers as well as local colleges and universities about future careers and post 16 progression routes.


Musical 2020- Annie

Musical 2020- Annie

We are very excited to start working on our next big musical- Annie. The show will take place in July 2020. We started rehearsals last week, held auditions and the cast are now learning lines and dance routines. With a cast of 55 students, we are very lucky to have so much talent here at Castle View.

Our choir are currently working towards their next big project- Singing with Re-Take That at the Sunderland Empire on November 2nd 2019. Students have been learning “Rule the World” and “Never Forget” which they will perform live on stage with the tribute act as well as opening the show with a tribute to “The Lion King”

Let’s Get Cooking cooker club has a ‘cheesy’ time making Cheese Scones. Year 7 & 8 students meet every Tuesday and learn basic cookery skills. They all enjoyed making and eating their scones.

Crime and Safety Awareness Day

Crime and Safety Awareness Day As part of our personal development and PSCHE programme, year 8 participated in a Crime and Safety Awareness day. Students took part in a series of workshops delivered by external agencies including the British Red Cross, Northern Power Group, the Prison and Probation Service and Prison Me! No Way! (an educational charity which aims to raise awareness among young people about the causes, consequences and penalties of crime).

8ESe – Attendance Duck League Winners!

8Ese have won the attendance duck league and as there reward had an afternoon at Herrington Country Park. A fantastic time was had by all. The few showers of heavy rain did not stop the fun even if the first 10 minutes were spent squashed in one bus for shelter!! The students were fantastic and already talking about next years trip when we win the league again! They know how important attendance is. A great time was had and the attendance duck enjoyed the fresh air!
