Year 8 football County Cup results

The year 8 football team had a county cup match tonight and beat Cardinal Hume 7-2. We started the day only having 8 of the 15 players in school due to sickness so others were asked to play and by the end of the day I had 16 players. There was a great sense of togetherness, even with those who hadn’t played in the squad before. Goals scored by: Evan Cubby (1) Bevan Davison (1) Callum Pemberton (c)(3) Jamie Coates (1) Leyton Donkin (1) Onto the next round. Well done lads!

Remembrance day activity

The Academy would like to show off the wonderful work created by Year 7 in their previous art lessons! Students were set the activity of designing a bunting triangle in order to raise awareness and pay respects to those who lost their lives at war. The work was to such a high standard, Miss Richardson created the bunting to display around the art department for everyone to see.

Charity Challenge

As part of our Charity Challenge this half year we are asking all members of our school community to continue the good work we started last academic year and donate items of tinned and packet food, toiletries e.g. toothpaste and brushes, toilet rolls, deodorant etc. which will all go to the local foodbank for families to access over the Christmas period. We all feel the pressure to provide the perfect Christmas but some families do not have any Christmas at all.

Year 8 students worked with Learn By Design to explore careers in physics, design and technology and engineering. Students were tasked with designing and making an electric car. Through this activity students considered concepts around energy use, energy generation and sustainability.

Students in year 9 are working with FutureMe (part of the North East Collaborative Outreach Programme - NECOP) this half term. In their first session, students explored, using Lego, their interests and aspirations. Future sessions will cover personal finance, post 16 pathways and revision techniques.

The Riot Act delivered their Josh Green assembly to year 8. This theatre event explored messages around road safety. Students will continue to learn about these topics in their Life Skills lessons.

Cookery Club's latest creation!

Cookery club have been making Cheese and Bacon wraps to keep them warm on these chilly autumnal nights. The bakers in Cookery Club made Cheese and Bacon wraps this week. Their pastry skills are developing nicely and as you can see, the results were fabulous. They all enjoyed creating these delicious snacks and many said they were so scrummy! All the students were great and had a wonderful time.

Year's 7 and 8 girls football:6 a side tournament

Mr McKenna took two teams out to compete in a 6 a side tournament against girls from Sunderland, Washington, Durham and Peterlee. The competition was originally aimed at year 8's, however, as we had a great following of year 7 girls, we were the only school to enter a year 7 team! The tournament was comprised of four groups with the winners of each group qualifying to the semi finals and then a final to decide who would represent Sunderland AFC at Huddersfield.

Year 7 girls are joint champions!

In their first ever competitive event at Kepier last night, in a mini league of 5 teams, our Year 7 girls football team finished joint champions with Hetton, thanks to the following results: CVEA 0-1 St Anthony’s CVEA 0-0 Hetton CVEA 3-1 Kepier Georgia Roberts 1 Kadi Kelly 1 Lillie-Mae Herron 1 CVEA 1-0 Redhouse (Game was cut short due to timings of the event) Kadi Kelly 1

Fruity Flapjacks

The students in Cookery Club made some fabulous Fruity Flapjack tray bakes. With the help of our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh volunteers, the year 7 students create their masterpieces. All the students said how delicious their bakes were when they tasted them. Well done to all.

PiXL The Edge Programme

Year 7 and 8 students follow PiXL The Edge programme during their life skills lessons. This allows students to track how they demonstrate key attributes; Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, initiative and Communication. Examples of what they have completed include; writing a book review, completing a sponsored cross-country run and leading a warm up session in PE.

Year 10 Engineering students had the opportunity to visit Nissan as part of their annual School Engineering Event. The event, inspired by the government’s “See inside Manufacturing” programme, aims to inspire young people to consider careers in the advanced manufacturing industry. During the visit to the Nissan Sunderland Plant, students heard how engineers are adapting to an ever changing world and were given a tour of the production line.

Indoor Athletics Sunderland Championships

Mr Kelly and Miss Keys took 30 of our year 7 and 8 students to Biddick Academy to take part in the above competition. The students did extremely well competing in events like the standing long jump, standing triple jump, shot put, relay races and other sprinting races.

We are delighted to have officially launched our Ford NGL journey with our business partners and staff. Working with coaches from the USA, the North East LEP and the Edge Foundation, the project will further strengthen our relationships with our business and community partners. This will provide even more opportunities for students to interact with local employers and link their classroom learning to the world of work.

Castle View dance students scouted!

Today professional dancer / choreographer Geoff Hopson delivered a workshop to our performing arts students. Geoff was talent scouting for Dance City’s Centre for Advanced Training programme which is a contemporary dance company for 10-16 year olds. The following students were “spotted”: Olivia Campbell, Olivia Pringle, Leah Walker and Kelsey Smith. Huge congratulations girls!
