CVEA Girls’ football squad travelled to The Stadium of Light on the evening of 3rd May, for the annual Sunderland Schools’ end-of-season presentations. Nearly 500 players, parents and coaches were met by Sunderland Schools’ Football Association members, Sunderland city councillors and Head teachers from across the city, all keen to celebrate the schools’ successes over the season. The girls were particularly pleased to see Keira Ramshaw of SAFC Ladies join SSFA Chairman Aidan Tasker on stage to present medals. After an incredibly successful season, CVEA girls’ collected 5 of the 7 trophies available – more than any other school in Sunderland – with some of the girls picking up 4 medals each!

Girls’ Football at CVEA continues to go from strength to strength. Not only have all 3 competitive age groups been extremely successful, but many more girls at the academy are now regularly attending weekly football coaching sessions. In addition, we have had 6 girls accepted in to our Football Academy, attending focussed, weekly training with their male counterparts. The majority of our girls’ squad have also been selected to play at district level and 5 have been invited to attend trial training sessions at SAFC. Outside of the academy teams, we have had a major influx of female players to the academy Talent ID programme. 15 primary school girls from across Sunderland now attend weekly coaching sessions with a view to obtaining a scholarship in Year 7.

The future of girls’ football at CVEA looks extremely bright!
