For a number of our students, the definite highlight of the term was this year’s skiing trip to the Alps. 41 students made the (rather difficult) 24hr coach and ferry journey to Pila, a 2.7km high ski resort close to the Aosta Valley in Italy.
The accommodation for the week was the Hotel Casale, a small, but friendly, family-run hotel overlooking the pistes that would be tackled that week. The programme for the week didn’t just include skiing and having faced the nursery slopes and got to grips with real snow on day 1 (most had only ever tackled Silksworth!), the group enjoyed a night out at a genuine Italian pizzeria.
The skiing was fantastic and a number of students displayed some real talent, Sol Nicholson was a natural, Nathan Metcalfe was the perfect student and got better and better by the hour and Jonathan James showed off all of his snow dome practice from day 1. All of the students improved immeasurably and most groups were screaming down some challenging red routes by the third day; some even managed a few jumps by the end of the week.
Away from the slopes, some of the highlights included Ellis Hodgeson’s, Jay Morrow’s and Luke Richards’ performances at karaoke night, a CVEA dance-off in a mixed school disco and an Isaac Dixon inspired win for Mr Kelly’s team during the 10-pin-bowling competition.
All of the students were an absolute pleasure to take away and plans (and some deposits!) are already advanced in readiness for 2019’s trip.
