As part of our curriculum activities in recognition of World Mental Health day, Art students produced posters to raise awareness of mental health. Miss Gaffney and Miss Nolan were really impressed with the standard of work.

Football season is back!

Tonight the year 10 girls played Kepier’s Year 10 and 11 team and won both games: CVEA 4 v 3 Kepier Emily Mooney x2 Ellie Smith Katie Mapstone Cvea 2 v 1 Kepier Alex Fawkes Katie Mapstone.

Last night saw an array of talent on show at the Academy as our students took park in this years CVEA's Got Talent. In the end, Lauren Hair was crowned our winner for 2019! Congratulations to every student who took part last night!

Year 10 Design and Technology students worked with the National Glass Centre and the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum as part of their DesignLab Nation programme. The programme aims to inspire the next generation of designers and support design education in secondary schools across the UK.

Year 10 Netball v Oxclose

Our Year 10 Netball girls played against Oxclose last night. After a close game, the team played out a 9-9 draw. Well done girls!

Our Year 8/9 Netball team also played Oxclose last night. Just like the Year 10's, the team played out a draw, with the game finishing 10-10. Well done girls!

Year 9 boys football

The Year 9 boys played the first round of the Nationals last night, against High Tunstall from Hartlepool. They ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, after a difficult first half. Two goals from Khaya Dlamini, one from Callum Hughes and an own goal saw the boys get the result. The team are looking forward to the next round, and finding out who they will face!

Evan wins Gold and Silver!

Academy student Evan Anderson travelled to Holland to take part in an international Judo Competition, he took part in two competitions Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th winning gold in Emmen and silver in Alkmaar. Huge congratulations to Evan on this amazing achievement!

We were delighted to welcome Chief Constable Winton Keenen to the Academy. He spoke to students about his career path, the roles and responsibilities of the police force as well as key employability skills and attributes. The session was really interesting and Chief Constable Keenen was really impressed by the questions the students asked him about his career.

As part of our careers programme, a group of year 10 students visited the Beacon of Light to participate in the regional Bring It On! event. The event showcased the many exciting businesses and opportunities in North East engineering and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Year 10 Netball in the Durham County Schools netball tournament.

On Saturday the Year 10 girls went to the Beacon of Light to compete in the Durham County Schools netball tournament. They were against majority Year 11 teams and the level of competition was huge, although they did not finish in the top 3 they did really well and tried so hard.


World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

On Thursday 10th October, students and staff at CVEA showed their support for World Mental Health Day by wearing yellow. The Food Technology department and Catering students baked delicious cakes for a fundraising bake sale and other curriculum areas integrated the theme of mental health and well-being into their lessons. We are so proud that our students, staff and parents raised over £520 for Young Minds (the UK's leading charity for young people's mental health).

Year 9 Netball results

Our Year 9 Netball team got off to a positive start in the league last night. The girls played well in their first game, but lost 13-0 to Farringdon, and beat Houghton Kepier in their second game, 8-4. A good start to the netball season for the girls!
