Today, we welcomed Michelle Payne to the Academy. Michelle is a biomedical scientist and a Senior Lecturer in HealthCare Sciences at the University of Sunderland.
Michelle explained the important role that laboratory medicine plays in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many medical conditions. Did you know that 70% of all patient diagnoses are based on laboratory results?
It was interesting to find out about the different routes into biomedical science and the range of job roles which involve biomedical science.
We also discussed the skills and qualities that biomedical scientists need to have including commitment, analytical skills, teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
