We are delighted to have officially launched our Ford NGL journey with our business partners and staff. Working with coaches from the USA, the North East LEP and the Edge Foundation, the project will further strengthen our relationships with our business and community partners. This will provide even more opportunities for students to interact with local employers and link their classroom learning to the world of work.

Castle View dance students scouted!

Today professional dancer / choreographer Geoff Hopson delivered a workshop to our performing arts students. Geoff was talent scouting for Dance City’s Centre for Advanced Training programme which is a contemporary dance company for 10-16 year olds. The following students were “spotted”: Olivia Campbell, Olivia Pringle, Leah Walker and Kelsey Smith. Huge congratulations girls!

Year 8 girls win the tournament!

Despite the bad weather, the academy has some fantastic sports news. Our year 8 girls football team won their latest tournament last night, without conceding a goal! They beat Redhouse 6-0, Bede 4-0, and Kepier 7-0. Emmi Weiss scored a hat trick in every game! The Kepier game was stopped at 8-0 by the coaches request. In a week full of miserable weather, this is amazing news for a Friday!

Bangers on Bonfire Night.

Students from the cookery club cooked up a ‘banging’ treat by making sausage rolls on Bonfire Night. There were no fireworks from any of the ovens, just fabulous baking so the sausage rolls were cooked to perfection. All the students went home to enjoy their goods before attending organised displays.

Science star of the half-term winners.

The following students received the Academy's Science stars of the half-term award for this half term: Jamie Armstrong, Shola Richards, Maddie Bernardi, Alex Fawkes, Kaycee Bell, Jenny Turnbull & Alex Bryan. Winners not pictured were : Ben Percy, Oliver Campbell, Emily Ellwood. There were lots of nominations from staff for students who continuously work hard and put in great effort in lessons. Well done students!

Year 10 Netball Tournament result

Our Year 10 netball girls took part in the Sunderland netball tournament on Wednesday. Overall, the girls came second, only losing to the tournament winners Oxclose. All girls were great together and did really well!

Hylton Castle Project - Creative Writing Competition

The Hylton Castle Project Creative Writing Competition awards ceremony took place on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd October. Ten students from CVEA were shortlisted for the awards. The finalists from CVEA collected an astonishing 7 prizes, out of the 9 available, for their age category. The prizes were awarded by the local author Nancy Revell (Shipyard Girls books) and Steve Watts from Sunderland University. Congratulations to all our winners!

Halloween cakes

Cookery Club have baked some spooky cakes for Halloween. Their spookily creative ideas added to the ‘spooktacular’ cakes they created. From whisking the cakes to mixing the icing then decorating with jelly eyeballs & brains, they had a fabulous time. Well done to everyone!

Trampoline Competition

Last week, Miss Walker took three students to a trampolining competition which was of a very high standard, most teams had 10-15 students in. All of our three students were great but in particular Jaydon Thompson has qualified in the boys intermediate category to progress to the next round of the competition. Charlie West finished in 5th place and Elle Smith finished in 12th place. We offer huge congratulations to all three students! Great achievement!

And the winners of RSC Kielder are: In first place Mr Turnbull and Joe Robson and in second place Miss Gaffney and Dion Stamp. The Theme for the Semi Final will be GLUTEN FREE. We want you to produce two gluten free baked products. Outstanding Effort from everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part and came to watch particularly Mrs Coxon!

Tonight the year 10 girls played Kepier’s Year 10 and 11 team and won both games: CVEA 4 v 3 Kepier Emily Mooney x2 Ellie Smith Katie Mapstone Cvea 2 v 1 Kepier Alex Fawkes Katie Mapstone.
