Lost property

Lost property

There has been a significant amount of lost property left at the Academy over the last year or so. We are doing a clear out and inviting students and parents/carers to come along and claim any lost property. You can access the academy after school from 3-4pm to check for any of your child’s missing items. We have a large number of very expensive items, including coats, bags and PE kit. We will hold items until the Easter holidays then we will be donating ALL items to charity.

Year 8 Handball

Our Year 8 boys competed in the U13’s Sunderland region finals tonight with the winners of the competition going on to qualify for the regionals next month. Rachel spoke to the students about her role in the police, the values of the police service, her motivation to join the police and the entry routes available to students considering a career in the police service (See more).

For our latest careers insight talk, the Academy hosted Professor Susan Bridgewater. Professor Sue Bridgewater runs the Centre for Sports Business at University of Liverpool and is Head of Learning for the League Managers Association - the football managers’ union. Sue was born and raised in Sunderland. Her Dad worked in Shipbuilding in the City, she went to Bede School, her cousins went to Castle View (See more)

The Academy welcomed back Sam from GlobalBridge to update students on changes to the GlobalBridge platform and to remind them to update their profiles on a regular basis. All students have a GlobalBridge account which allows all them to create media-rich online profiles that evidence their skills, experiences and achievements. Year 8 worked with a range of organisations to explore the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) to a wide range of careers and progression routes. Workshops included using code to programme a Lego car, solving mathematical problems, budgeting and exploring the career opportunities linked to STEM (See more)

A group of Year 7 and 8 students went to Southmoor Secondary to represent CVEA in a rugby festival yesterday. Cookery Club-Rocky Road

Cookery Club-Rocky Road

There was nothing rocky about the year 7 students tonight in Cookery Club when they made a tray bake of Rocky Road. Each student, weighed, measured, melted and mixed some amazing ingredients to make the fabulous treat. The Rocky Road was filled with popcorn, mini marshmallows; that melted in the chocolate and of course very healthy dried fruit. Let’s see what they can rustle up next week!

A group of year 9 and 10 students visited the University of Sunderland as part of the NECOP FutureMe programme. Students gained an insight into university life with workshops focused on careers, HE and work experience as well as opportunities to meet university ambassadors and mentors and a campus tour. The day concluded with a taster session at the university's radio station, Spark FM.

Under 14 girls football

Tonight was the start of the U14’s girls league! The girls played against an extremely strong Hetton side, a very tight game had us peppering the Hetton goal and a combination of very good goalkeeping and bad luck meant it was still 0-0 at half time. The second half started much the same but with 5 minutes left the ball was threaded through to Emmi Weiss on the left and a well driven shot nestled into the near post! And that’s how the game finished 1-0 to CVEA ?? (See more)

As part of the Builidng My Skills programme, year 10 had an extended assembly with Amy from Northumbria University. The focus was 'Online Appearance'. Students considered how businesses use social media in their recruitment processes and how social media can be used positively to enhance career prospects. Students will be working with Swinburne Madison next month to look at job applications and in April with Kwik Fit to prepare for their mock interviews
