On Wednesday 20th June, the latest graduates of the Pupil Librarian Scheme and their families/carers were invited to attend a ceremony at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. To mark their achievement of completing the accredited training, each student was awarded with a certificate by award-winning author Dan Smith who also generously presented each student with a signed copy of his book ‘Below Zero’.
Almost 900 pupils across Sunderland have taken part in this tremendous scheme since it began 14 years ago. Over the last academic year five pupils undertook the scheme; Daniel C, Bailey C, Chloe L, Kieran R and Cara T which allowed them to develop their literacy, communication, and team work skills. The pupils are mentored by Senior Pupil Librarians – graduates of the scheme, as well as library staff, each step of the way.
The Pupil Librarian team plays an important role in library life helping to create a calm and friendly atmosphere and in turn encouraging students to use our fabulous LRC. Congratulations to all involved!
