Course Structure

The PSCHE course covers different aspects of personal, social, citizenship and healtheducation. The course is closely linked to the 8 core values of the academy to help develop individuals. Individuals will work through various units of work over the threeyears at key stage 3 to give them a toolkit to use in life. This will be developed further in Key stage 4.

Summary of Course

Students will cover a wide variety of topics including smoking, drugs, healthy living,bullying and being good and active citizens.

Students will have regular PSCHE lessons covering a number of topics. They will also be complimented by the work studied during the regular challenge days held in the Academy.

Any specific ways parents can help

Parents can help students by making sure that all homework and research tasks arecarried out to the best of the students ability.

New vocabulary often proves difficult to understand and spell. Parents can help students to learn how to spell new words accurately and test them regularly.

Parents can help by ensuring that all work is completed to the best of the students ability.

Parents can help by answering questionnaires, helping with research tasks, and beingthere to engage in discussions.

Parents can help by ensuring that all websites accessed at home are appropriate andrelevant to the material area that the student is currently working in.

How work is assessed and marked

Work is marked regularly throughout each unit studies. Students are regularly tested on their understanding of topics and are assessed for their discussion work in class.

Homework arrangements

Homework is set and marked every week in accordance with the whole school homeworktimetable.
